Five Unforgettable Alaska Elopement Locations

The nearly untouched landscape of Alaska makes it an ideal place for dreamy elopements and romantic adventures. With so many beautiful landscapes to choose from it can be difficult to know where to start when researching where to elope in Alaska.

We’ve chosen five of the most unforgettable Alaska elopement locations to inspire your search.

Bride and groom running in the mountains towards helicopter and holding hands

Girdwood, Alaska

Not only is Girdwood, Alaska easy to reach, but it also feels just as immersive as this state’s more remote locations. Boasting incredible mountain views and the ideal alpine vibe, this ski town is my top elopement location in Alaska. This town offers a wide variety of experiences for every adventure level. From hiking trails featuring waterfalls and wildflower meadows, to tasty dining options, there is something for everyone.

For your own elopement, take one of Alpine Air’s glacier helicopter tours then enjoy a picnic in your cozy Airbnb cabin, like this couple did for their intimate wedding in Girdwood. And once you’ve finished adventuring, you and your new spouse can soak in the newlywed feeling at the nearby nordic spa.

Features of Girdwood, Alaska

Portage Glacier, Alaska

Just an hour from Anchorage, Portage Glacier Lake area is a hidden gem surrounded by mountains and water, and has a way of feeling remote without the hassle.

There are several easily-accessible pull off areas featuring smaller lakes and rivers along the way to Portage that are also a great option for elopements. Additionally there are campgrounds located in the area that would make for a fun glamping experience and overnight adventure.

If you are feeling adventurous and wanting to hike there are several trails in the area that would make for an epic spot to exchange vows.

Features of Portage Alaska

  • One Hour from Anchorage

  • Mountains and Water Views

  • Less Crowded and more private

Seward, Alaska

If you and your favorite person feel called to the eclectic allure of coastal towns, Seward, Alaska is the place to elope. With unmatched seaside views and endless activities like fishing, hiking, and kayaking, this small Alaskan town is another favorite Alaska elopement location. Some of my favorite lodgings in Seward include Salted Roots near Lowell Point, a collection of chic A-frame cabins and cottages with a romantic feel.

One of this location’s highlights is the surreal amount of wildlife you’ll often find swimming through the coves including majestic whales and adorable otters. Your adventure could feature some of these animals if you choose to elope at sea by chartering a boat to explore Resurrection Bay and its many scenic islands (one of my favorite ways to experience Alaska)! You can find some misty inspiration for your elopement in Seward on the blog.

Features of Seward, Alaska

  • 2.5 hours from Anchorage

  • Coastal town with pebble beaches and mountainscapes

  • Close to Kenai Fjords National Park access

Matanuska-Susitna Valley

Found just 20 minutes outside of Palmer, Alaska, this scenic valley is well-loved for its lush wildflowers, great hiking, alpine lakes and creeks, and most of all its incredible views. Here, Hatcher’s Pass has become a favorite spot for eloping couples to spend their time, and for good reason.

This elopement location can suit the adventure style of any couple, whether you long for a multi-day hike or hope to just hop out of the car. But, my favorite hidden gem is the Reflections Lake Trail, an easy hike around a beautiful body of water that truly lives up to its name.

  • 1 hour from Anchorage

  • Lots of hiking trails

  • Great for furry family members

Eklutna Lake, Alaska

In the heart of Chugach State Park stands the breathtaking Eklutna Lake backdropped by snow-capped mountains. This lake’s beautiful blue color not only makes it stand out in photos, but makes activities like kayaking and canoeing an unforgettable experience.

One of my favorite hiking trails found near the lake is the Thunderbird Falls Trail where you’ll discover cascading waterfalls tucked away in the trees. However, the peaceful scene of this crystal-colored lake alone will captivate you and your honey so you’ll feel like the only people in the world!

  • Part of a state park with lots of hiking trails
