Alaska Winter Elopement: A Snowshoe Adventure

It’s time to relive Micah and Gabby’s snowy adventure as they explored the heart of Alaska's winter wonderland with a full day of adventure, love, whiskey, pizza and laughs.

Disclaimer: When Donna Marie Photography and I began planning this styled adventure together we knew there would be lots of snow but we didn’t know there would be multiple feet of new snow. As the date approached we continued to check the weather to see if we would be treated to a blue bird day with sunlight, but quickly realized the weather was calling for a storm. A very large storm predicting over 24” of fresh snow. Weather is always something you have to consider when having an elopement, especially a winter elopement in Alaska. However, we all decided to continue as planned and agreed this would be a very memorable AK winter elopement experience.

Getting Ready in the Cozy Cabin:

One of my very favorite things is when couples eloping in Alaska decide to help each other get dressed on their wedding day instead of doing a first look. We highly encourage breaking away from tradition and having your day be a true and honest representation of your relationship, and that is exactly what Gabby and Micah did. After the couple finished getting ready together in their charming cabin nestled within the snowy wilderness they were ready to venture outside to find a spot to exchange words of love and favorite memories from their relationship.

Snowshoeing to the Ceremony Location:

With all the new snow we were especially thankful Micah and Gabby were an adventurous couple. We were also glad that this styled shoot was focused on an Alaska snowshoe adventure all along since the floral adorned snowshoes from Storybook Floral proved to be a must in order to break trail through the thigh deep powder and find the perfect spot in the secluded woods to act as a ceremony location for the couple to share favorite memories from their relationship while sipping on a bottle of whiskey to stay warm.

The snow capped trees and landscape created a twinkling backdrop for the couple’s sweet and intimate moment.

Afterwards, Donna and I put our snowshoes to the test and plowed back through untouched powder, never knowing how far we might sink while Micah used a sled to pull Gabby back to their cozy cabin to warm up.

Wood-Fired Pizza from the Oonie Oven:

Returning from their adventure outside we had a romantic candle lit dinner setup ready for the lovebirds to enjoy. For dinner we figured what better way to embrace the rustic charm of the Alaskan winter than by making wood-fired pizza? Micah and Gabby enjoyed the experience of crafting their own culinary masterpieces using an Oonie oven, savoring the unique flavors and the joy of each other’s time. Throughout the night the cabin glowed with the soft flicker of candles.

S'mores by the Wood Stove:

As the evening deepened, the wood stove crackled, casting a gentle glow that mirrored the love shared between the couple. Together, Micah and Gabby created sweet memories by making s'mores, enjoying the simple pleasure of indulging in treats while wrapped in each other's arms. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the perfect ending to an incredible day.

Far too many couples are hesitant to embrace winter and elope in Alaska during the colder months. This styled Alaska adventure elopement perfectly captured the essence of love in winter’s embrace. From the cozy candlelit cabin to the snowshoe journey through thick powder, every moment was a testament to the couple's adventurous spirit. Witnessing this winter love story, reminded me of the profound magic that happens when love intertwines with Alaska's winter landscape, creating a bond that is as enduring as the snow itself.
